A video called The Chickening has been posted to YouTube which re-imagines Stanley Kubrick’s masterwork horror, The Shining, as an explosive X-Rated B-Movie about a fried chicken fast-food theme park resort. There is nothing of worth that I can think to say about this video. What I can say that every other edgy viral video editor out there may as well uninstall Vegas Pro 12 right this second, because nothing they can produce could be this emotionally and visually devastating. The Chickening is not so much NSFW as it is NSFEAA (Not Safe For Ever, At All), but its creator must be given credit for the sheer effort poured into this thing. It’s an opus, whether you like it or not.
Humanity did not evolve to be able to process this kind of cancerous material. Even as I laugh, I don’t know if I like it. I don’t know if I even agree with it on a moral basis. Movie mashups are dangerous territory, especially when the subject is a beloved classic such as this. The Chickening is noteworthy, for it has a darkness I’ve never seen before. Only after a fourth consecutive viewing played at 0.5 speed did I feel satisfied that I had absorbed every heinous detail contained within. Conspiracy theorist documentary Room 237 needs a second edition now.
I never post single-videos articles on my blog these days, not since the incident, but an exception had to be made.
Sweating to hold in the puns, so I’m just going to lay it on you before eg-gets out of talon.
